When I am not in my studio, I can be found doing a DIY project with Keith (we are renovating our NC home now), taking care of our two fur babies Bart and Sami, or doing something athletic (running, walking or biking).
Hi and welcome to my store! My name is Sue Hostig and I am the designer and creator of the items in this shop. I have lived for most of my life in the Capital Region of New York state; I moved to North Carolina 2019. My creative vibe can be attributed to my Mama’s side of the family, where music and art were both passions and professions. They were also great cooks! I was focused primarily on music in my early years; I did both solo work and participated in many choral groups. I was subsequently bitten by the baking bug and started a custom decorated cake business. For over 20 years, I made custom wedding and specialty cakes. This business allowed me to use my art and baking skills to create unique cakes for all types of celebrations. I particularly enjoyed doing birthday cakes for children. Seeing them react to their special cake truly warmed my heart!
When I met my husband Keith in 2004, another creative outlet began to emerge. Keith is an outstanding builder/fixed dude and introduced me to home renovation techniques. We spent over 12 years re-doing my family home and I learned so much! Keith and I are a good team…he makes my vision real. I love working with stone and tile…and thus another business blossomed. I began to do stone mosaics, which progressed to working with shells and glass. Perky Penguin Crafts did many, many shows in the northeastern region of the United States and has begun doing shows in easter North Carolina. In addition to shows, I am a regular vendor at the New Bern Farmer’s Market.
